Game Goal

Word Race is a fast-paced, competitive game where players find words by connecting adjacent letters.

The goal of the game is simple: score more points than your opponent to win!

Basic Rules:

• Connect three or more letters to form words.

• The game ends when you run out of time.

• If you can’t find any more words, you can end the game at any time.

• Each match has a 2 minute time limit.

Fairness

Each match of Word Race is played against another player to see who can get the highest score.

• You are matched against players of similar skill, but you may not be playing at the same time.

• Placement of letters is random each match but is the same for both players.

• Timer continues to run even while the game is paused to prevent cheating.

How to Play

Forming Words:

• Drag a link between three or more adjacent letters to form words.

• You can link up and down, left and right, or diagonally.

Bonus Tiles:

• The colored tiles are bonus tiles.

• Bonus tiles double the word score when used.

Scoring

Scores in Word Race vary depending on the tiles. Scores over 300 are great. Any score over 500 is incredible!

Points in Word Race come from two sources:

1. Base Score 

2. Completion Bonus

Base Score:

• Determined by the number of words found and the length of the words.

• +10 points for every letter after the third.

• Each letter is scored by the value in the top right corner of the tile.

• Letter values range between +1 to +10 points each.

• Commonly used letters are worth less; rarely used letters are worth more.

Bonus Tiles:

• Tiles shaded in blue are bonus tiles.

• If a word contains a bonus tile, it’s worth 2x the sum of the letter values.

• Bonus tiles stack! If you find a word that has 2 bonus titles it’s worth 4x!

Completion Bonus:

• Determined by the words found and the number of possible words.

• Equal to the % of words found divided by the total # of words times 100.

• To simplify, if you find 15% of the total words you get +15 points.

Strategy

• Start by analyzing the board, but be quick because the timer doesn’t stop.

• Search for vowels and try to form words using the letters around them.

• Where there is one word there is usually more; try different combos to find similar words.

• When there is an S, use it to your advantage! I.e. TETHER + TETHERS = 2 words!

• Make use of the blue bonus tiles to maximize your score.

• Take your time; there’s no time bonus.

• Review the words you missed after the match and use these words in future games.
